Setting Healthy Goals for the Year 2022

December 23, 2021 0 Comments
Setting Healthy Goals for Year 2022

The Year 2022 is fast approaching, in just a few days it will be the year of the Tiger. As the New Year comes, I've thought about the things that I should've done, but haven't got the chance to do. So, I'm setting up healthy goals for the coming year, and here are some of them.

Watch What I Eat and Drink

I eat healthy foods most of the time, but I found myself eating more processed foods and drinking soft drinks late this year. So, that's what I'm about to limit or try to avoid if I can next year.

Online Food Delivery

LIMIT or STOP Ordering Foods Online

I admit this is quite challenging. I haven't used any food delivery apps not until the middle of this year where we stayed downtown for months. The restaurants and malls are very much accessible here, unlike in Tacunan where there are very limited food deliveries and our favorites are in downtown. So, there... Goodbye food delivery apps na ba? So, instead of ordering foods online, we'll try to make healthy home cooked meals.

Exercise and Be Fit

I've been slacking off and haven't done any exercises for a while except for walking while catching Pokemon. LOL! I actually missed doing jump ropes already. I guess I don't have to wait for the Year 2022 to start doing this again and practice Yoga with Miel.

Workout Calculator

I guess this workout calculator will be handy in keeping my fitness journey on track. It can quickly estimate your total caloric burn rate for a combination of up to 20 different exercises.

Practice Baking Again

I was thinking about this last year, but I still haven't done it. I'll make sure to try the recipes I had in mind and make it into a reality *crossing my fingers*. Actually, I didn't go into a culinary school or had any formal training in baking, but I have attended a basic baking workshop a few years ago. Then, I started baking cookies at first before I tried cakes, cupcakes, and cake pops. It was fun and I'm excited to do it again soon. :)

Have a Positive Mindset

I am a worrier. I worry about a lot of things, even things that didn't happen yet, and then anxiety would eat me up and I'd have panic attacks. Life's challenges can be a bit overwhelming sometimes, but hopefully, I'd be able to manage how I feel and set a positive mindset.

Manage My Time

2021 is quite a busy year for me, I am so overwhelmed by the online opportunities given and offered to me. I became busy online and haven't got the chance to unplug until late this year. It felt good to be away from social media for a while, to not think about re-shoots and deadlines, but I actually missed it afterward. *lol* I'll try to balance and manage my time now, so I won't get burned out.

Set a Time for Games

I got hooked into playing online games lately, most especially this play-to-earn game that keeps me up even at midnight. *lol* I love strategy games and this game challenges me. I like the fact that I can earn from a game I enjoyed playing, so no time is wasted. ;)

My daughter also loves playing games, I let her play once in a while, especially if she's done with her assignments and during weekends. Recently, she's been playing kids games related to cooking or food.

Kids Games Tap Supermarket

Tap Supermarket is quite fun by the way, I watch her play this game where she manages a grocery store which includes restocking of supplies, expanding the line of goods sold, and checking out customers.

Kids Games Find Pair

Find Pair is the other game that she finds cute, but challenging at the same time because it has a timer. Like me, she also loves puzzle games, and she enjoyed playing this memory card matching game. What I like about this game is it helps her develop pattern recognition skills and helps her identify similar items, where the view is partially obstructed or the item is spun around at a different angle.

Kids learn from playing games too, both online and offline, but as parents, we have to set rules so they won't get addicted to it and won't affect their studies. So, I have to set a time now for both of us to play games.

Setting up our goals is very easy, what's hard is actually having the desire and motivation to maintain doing it. For sure there will be temptations and challenges, but I hope that I'd be able to achieve these goals. :)

How about you, do you have any goals for next year?

My First Jab of the Covid-19 Vaccine

September 03, 2021 0 Comments

Are you afraid to get vaccinated? Me too! I also have doubts but I keep on praying for signs and He gave me a lot. I keep on praying before and during the day of my vaccination... And He calmed my anxious mind and I wasn't nervous anymore when it's time to get my first jab...

They checked our temperature and Blood Pressure before we get vaccinated. Usually, my BP goes up every time I had it checked because I'd get really nervous. But I was surprised because this is the first time that I get a normal BP result on the first try. Prayer works! :)

Everything goes smoothly after I got vaccinated with Coronavac (Sinovac), with no other side effects aside from the pain at the site of injection. It's been 3 days since I got vaccinated and so far I feel good with just a little muscle pain on my upper arm and sometimes feeling tired and sleepy.

Not all people who got vaccinated experience the same side effects, but these side effects are normal because this is a sign that our body is building immune protection.

Other people will experience common side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine such as:

  • Some pain, swelling on the arm where you received the vaccine
  • Chills, or mild fever
  • Tiredness
  • Headaches
  • Joint pain or muscle aches
These side effects typically go away within a few days.

Severe side effects are very rare, but could include:
  • Itching
  • Fainting
  • Vomiting
  • Severe allergic reaction
  • Wheezing, difficulties in breathing, or shortness of breath
Let a health worker know immediately if you experience any of these side effects. [Source: https://www.unicef.org]

I am glad I decided to get vaccinated, I'm looking forward to my 2nd dose before the month ends. Hopefully, it will go smoothly too with no complications.

By the way, the day I got vaccinated was also the day that I became officially part of theAsianParent's #TeamBakuNanay. I am proud and happy to be a part of this wonderful community that conducts informative and meaningful campaigns which aim to educate everyone about the effectiveness of vaccines in protecting our family's health.

My First Jab of Covid-19 Vaccine - Mama Miah
(Nevermind my haggardo verzosa and hungry look, hehehe!)

Hopefully, more people will be encouraged to get vaccinated, too. As for me, I choose to get vaccinated to protect myself, my loved ones, and the vulnerable people around me.

Thank you, City Government of Davao! The vaccination site was well organized and the process goes smoothly and orderly.

Praying for everyone's safety. Stay safe everyone and ALWAYS follow the protocol when going out even when you're already done with the 1st and 2nd doses of the Covid-19 vaccine! :)

Happy 5th Home Anniversary!

June 15, 2021 0 Comments

Home Sweet Home

Two weeks from now, and it will be our 5th Home Anniversary! Wow! Time goes by very quickly! I can't believe it's almost five years already; it feels like just a year or two has passed. I can still remember the day we visited our place, it was still bare, but now it has many plants and fruit-bearing trees. We love gardening, and if you've been reading my blog, you have already seen some of my gardening posts

A lot has changed over the years; it's been a roller coaster ride with the good, and not-so-good memories of the pandemic happening. My husband lost his job for a few months; we're struggling with our finances, especially the bills and our house mortgage. Luckily, he got hired on his new job, and since then we have been strict on budgeting and established our savings goals with the help of tools we found online. We still have more years to pay for our home, and having tools like online calculators helps us figure out our budget, saving, and mortgage payments.

Five years have passed, and there's still a lot of development needed. We don't have a proper fence and gate yet, but we're working out on that. Hopefully, we'll be able to achieve our goals one by one in God's time. :)

Here's a photo of me when we visited our humble place. It's been our wish to have our own house, and having this photo will keep us reminded that dreams do come true if we work hard to make them happen. "God designed us to work and trust - not just trust." This is one of the lines in the book that I read entitled 8 Secrets of the Truly Rich by Bo Sanchez, which really inspired and motivated me to work on our goals.

March 22, 2021 0 Comments
I used to struggle with my emotions and often times I drowned in my pool of negativity. But, today, I choose positivity and eliminate negativity as much as possible. I created this list as a reminder to always choose to be positive in everything, not only today but every day.

How about you? What is your to-do list for today?

DIY Haircut at Home - Tipid Hacks for Everyone!

February 10, 2021 0 Comments

Out of the blue, I decided to cut my hair. My hair has grown long already and the last time I cut it was last summer, so I grab a scissor and started cutting my hair in front of the mirror in the bathroom (lol).

Here is the output of my DIY Haircut. I also decided to dress up so when my daughter saw me with my new hairdo and outgoing clothes, she asked me: "Saan ka punta, Ma?" She's used to seeing me na nakapang-bahay lang since ECQ kaya nagulat at napatanong talaga siya.

I've been cutting my own hair ever since I was single and I still do it now that I am already a mother. I also cut my daughter's hair and my hubby's too with the help of a razor that we borrowed from my sister-in-law. By doing this, we can save money (tipid talaga) and since we are still in quarantine, it's best to just stay at home and do it yourself (DIY).

It was hard the first time I did this, looking at the mirror while cutting your hair isn't that easy, especially when you can't see the back part of your hair. But, there's a trick to this DIY Haircut at Home and I'll share it with you

  1. The first thing you'll do is brush your hair and bring it all to the front then tie it with any hair ties or scrunchies you have.
  2. Then, tie your hair again to the part where you want it to be cut, it's up to you on how short do you want it to be.
  3. Then, you can start cutting your hair to that part and you're done! Easy, right?

As for me, I cut it really short this time it's shoulder-length. I also like my hair to have that layered look, so what I do to get that look is I cut my hair vertically, just a few inches from the tip of my hair and that's it. My layered haircut is done! By the way, I just use a regular scissor. :)

And one last thing, be confident and trust yourself that you can do it! Good luck! ;)

I hope this is DIY Haircut Tips and Hacks is helpful to you. I don't have a photo or video of myself doing this layered haircut though, but maybe next time I'll record it so it will be much easier to follow the steps. :)

Aloe Pepe (Aloe descoingsii x haworthioides)

May 04, 2020 0 Comments
Aloe Pepe is a hybrid between Aloe descoingsii and Aloe haworthioides (a.k.a Aloe descoingsii x haworthioides).

Aloe Pepe's cute flower stalk...
I had these Aloe Pepe succulents for a while and this is the first time it bloomed. Its flowers are small and really cute, it has a lighter color, unlike my other aloes. I water it once a week and it has a gritty and well-drained soil. This plant gets sun exposure for 4 hours only because it gets damaged or sunburn when I put in a place where it gets the full sun exposure.

Things that we do During the Enhanced Community Quarantine

April 08, 2020 0 Comments
Things that we do During the Enhanced Community Quarantine

Our city has already imposed the Enhanced Community Quarantine and it might end until the end of this month or it might probably prolong depending on the status of the situation. I pray it will not last that long, my daughter is already bored doing the same things almost every day, not that I am complaining. I bet she is not the only kid who is bored nowadays and even adults get bored too. So what are the things that we do so we don't get bored during the Enhanced Community Quarantine?

Well, I do not usually let my daughter play mobile games unless it is the weekend and it is just for a short time. But, ever since the quarantine has started, I let her borrow my phone and play Pokémon. I set some rules before she can play and for how long she can play because I do not want to strain her eyes from glaring on the phone for a long time. Aside from playing mobile games, I also encourage her to play other offline games and activities like doing skipping rope, play my childhood game jackstone, Lego, drawing, painting, coloring, and recently, we started teaching her how to play Scrabble which she finds really interesting to play with. She also just started learning Origami and had fun making different things out of papers. A few Origami she had made are heart, elephant, boat and a unicorn.

She loves to read books and recently she found my ebooks folder in our laptop and I caught her reading The Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days. She already watched the movie and likes it. She also loves reading Geronimo Stilton and Thea Stilton books.

I made some questionnaires for her to answer, just a recap on their lesson last school year. Her least favorite subject is Math, so I focus more on that subject. :)

The Land Before Time movies

We love watching movies and my daughter loves watching animated movies and series. I let her watch my favorite childhood movies like The Land Before Time, Disney and Pixar movies old and new, animated TV Series like Avatar The Last Airbender and Cased Closed (Detective Conan), and recently we are watching Japanese Animated films from Studio Ghibli; My Neighbor Totoro and The Secret World of Arriety. Other Japanese movies by Hayao Miyazaki that I have and are going to watch in the next days are Howl's Moving Castle, Mary and the Witch's Flower, Kiki's Delivery Service, Ponyo.

Well, those were just some of the things that keep my kid busy. As for me, I really wanted to do gardening and finish my cross-stitch project this summer but unfortunately, we were not in our home as of the moment. Therefore, what I mostly do whenever I feel bored is watch movies with my daughter, color and do origami with her. Apart from that, I also watch Korean TV Series (My Love from Another Star), which I have forgotten for a long time and have not finished if not for the quarantine (LOL). Other koreanovela that are on my list are Playful Kiss, Love in the Moonlight and My Shy Boss.

I also try to be productive and create images using Canva for my social media accounts, trying to post and share informative posts on my pages and of course some positivity too to lighten our mood… I also did a few blog posts, which I hope, will generate $ soon. LOL. I am still a noob in Affiliate Marketing, even though I have these accounts for years already yet I still have not generated any income. Well, I will still try to learn more about it and hopefully, I will be able to learn how this thing works. ;)

There is also one thing that I have in mind that I really wanted to do during this quarantine time, Yoga. I recently downloaded an app but still have not started doing it. LOL! I hope I would be able to start doing Yoga one of these days… Hehehe…

Hmmm… So far, we are doing well during this pandemic, we get to bond more with our families online and offline while doing our share by staying at home. Thanks to social media platforms like Facebook, we get to update and talk to our families abroad.

I pray that this Covid19 pandemic will be over soon and we can get back to our normal lives. For now, let us do something productive and most importantly, let us do our part and STAY AT HOME if you have nothing important to do outside. May God bless us all...

The best time for new beginnings is now...

January 11, 2020 0 Comments
The best time for new beginnings is now...

We all have this mindset that we have to start doing something new based on the calendar. But, you don't have to wait for New Year or new month to start something new or continue to start again you're unfinished tasks/work...

I know sometimes we get too lazy to do the things that we wanted or we have to do. I am GUILTY of that too... ;) I sometimes set a date on the calendar like the first day of the month to start a little project or a DIY that I have been wanting to do but when that day's been over and I still haven't started anything, I tend to wait for another 1st day of the month again and the cycle goes on... LOL!

I wanted to be motivated this year and this is a reminder for myself to do what I can do now and don't wait for tomorrow, next week, or next month to start it. I have been wanting to do this cross-stitch pattern that I have bought years ago (2 or 3 years ago, I think). It's the Lord's Prayer and I really forgot about it because of this calendar mindset. Now that I remember it, I decided to go out and buy some of the threads that I needed and started doing my little project. I just hope that I get motivated each day to spend some time to do it. Oh... Wish me luck... :)

For those who like The Lord's Prayer Cross-stitch Design, you can buy it here:

Actually, I have a lot of things in mind that I wanted to do but I have to start one at a time. ;) How about you guys, what is it that you wanted to start doing this year? I hope you won't wait for months or years to start doing it... ;)

Mammillaria Beneckei a.k.a. Fish Hook Cactus Flower

August 12, 2019 2 Comments
Hello everyone! My Mammillaria Beneckei a.k.a. Fish Hook Cactus has already bloomed and the color of it's flower is... Yellow! It's my first time to see it's beauty since I last blogged about it in year 2017. I've been waiting for my fishhook cactus to bloom and it took 2 years for it to mature and finally had its flower. Yay! :)

Before it Bloomed...

I can't help to stare at it for so long because it's beauty is captivating. It's flower didn't last long by the way, it only bloomed for one day... But I am thankful, I have seen its beauty, hopefully its offspring will also bloom soon. :)

By the way, here's my previous blog post about Mammillaria Beneckei a.k.a. Fish Hook Cactus.

YOU are STRONGER than your ANXIETY

July 14, 2019 0 Comments
YOU are STRONGER than your ANXIETY. This is what I always say to myself whenever I am having an anxiety attack or panic attack.

It's been months since I had an anxiety/panic attack. Recently, I had an attack and it took a while to subside... Later that afternoon, while we were riding a jeepney on our way home, I was silently praying that God would take away this feeling and asking Him to save me. In just a few seconds after that short prayer, I heard one of my favorite Christian songs. At first, I thought I was just hearing it because I was having an attack and the volume was really low that I can't hardly hear it. Then a few seconds later, I can hear the song clearly, it's "One Way" by Hillsong United. I smiled and was about to cry because I know it's God and He heard my silent prayer.

I sing along as the songs were played and I feel calm and relieved knowing He responded to my prayer... The lyrics in the songs are like His message to me and I am happy knowing He's always there for me when I needed Him...

I lay my life down at your feet
Cause you're the only one I need
I turn to you and you were always there
In troubled times it's you I seek
I put you first that's all I need
I humble all I am, All to you

Chorus:

One way
Jesus
You're the only one that I could live for
One Way
Jesus
You're the only one that I could live for

You were always, always there
Every how and everywhere
Your grace abounds so deeply within me
You will never ever change
Yesterday today the same
Forever till forever meets no end

You are the way the truth and the life
We live by faith and not by sight... For you..
We're living all for you...

I was really amazed at our God... He calmed me through His songs and I am so grateful for that and for everything that He has done in my life... I am still praying that I wouldn't experience the attacks anymore... To those who are also experiencing anxiety or panic attacks, I pray that God will also help you... Just keep the faith and trust in Him...

These are the songs that were played after One Way: 10,000 Reasons, Mighty to Save, How Great is Our God, Blessed Be Your Name, Everlasting God, Here I am to Worship, and etc. (I don't know the title of some of the songs that were played.).

What Riding a Bicycle has Taught Us

April 29, 2019 0 Comments

My daughter got her first bicycle 2years ago, when she was 5 years old, it is a git from her generous Ninong. Just a few months ago, she insisted to take the training wheels out of her bike. She was really determined and wants to ride the bike on her own without the training wheels. I was hesitant and said no. But she keeps on bugging us for weeks saying she really know how to ride her bike without the training wheels. And then one day I give in... I told her that it's not easy and she must be patient and that it's alright if she might fall because this is just her first time to ride without the training wheels.

So, we took off her training wheels and guide her to ride the bike on her own...  But deep inside I am afraid to let her go, there are a lot of things that are running on my mind, a lot of "What if's"... But then I thought, she would never learn if we won't let her do it on her own. When we let her go, she rode the bike with ease and we were surprised that she really did know how to ride the bike without the training wheels! I was really surprised and happy at the same time, cheering on her as she keeps on riding the bike far away from us...

This experience has taught us a lesson... That we have to let our kids do things on their own, to venture on their own and give them a chance to do things alone and learn from their mistakes. We are so attached to our children that we forget that they need to grow up too, to be independent and overcome any challenges on their own.

She's still young and there will be a lot of letting go scenes in the future. I just hope that I will be able to let her go without feeling anxious... And guide her and say positive words to lift her self esteem and be a better version of herself and to just be there for her always...

Boredom Jar - A Great Way to Reduce Screen Time

December 20, 2018 0 Comments
Kids nowadays are not getting enough exercise, they are so fond of using smartphones, tablets and other gadgets for entertainment. It's nice because some apps are educational but excessive use of it might lead to serious health issues. I've seen a lot of stories about the effects and dangers of excessive screen time on children especially the younger ones. That's why I limit my daughter's screen time. I rarely let her use our phones or tablet, although sometimes I let her watch movies during weekends only. I want her to experience playing outside with other children without using any gadgets and enjoy her childhood like I enjoyed mine. :)

My daughter always say "I'm bored" especially when she see a kid or group of kids playing with their gadgets. I have also observed that when the screen time is over, she keep on saying "I'm bored", which is already annoying because she'll keep on bugging you thinking she will get to use the gadgets again if she'll cry and persist on what she wants. I pity her sometimes, thinking she's the only one who don't have a gadget to play on, but I stand firm on my decision to lessen her screen time to no screen time at all (if it can be helped) because it is for her own good anyway. I don't really give in to the tantrums, and when I say "NO", it's already final and I have to be firm about it.

Boredom Jar Activity Lists - Mama Miah

So, when I found out about the Boredom Jar just recently, I was so happy and I must say, it is really effective! I made my own list and when I heard her say "I'm bored" again, I told her about the Boredom Jar and how it works. As I was writing and adding up more tasks, my little one helped me fold the papers and she also thought of some things to do and add it up to her Boredom Jar! Hahaha!

I actually have no extra jar at home, so I make use of our old coin bank and use it as our Boredom Jar. ;)

By the way, here are some of the things she did today because she is bored... I loved the note that she made for me... She's so sweet... <3

Boredom Jar Activity Lists

I have a lot of things to add up on our list soon, because I know she's so hooked up with this activity and had picked a lot of papers inside and did all of them. I guess I made her busy and kept her boredom away. What a great way to unplugged. Happy Mom here... :)

10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)

October 27, 2018 0 Comments

I love listening to this song... Even when I have a lot of problems right now, I still have a lot of reasons to be thankful for...

“For all Your goodness I will keep on singing, 10,000 reasons for my heart to find.”

Don't be afraid to take the plunge...

Don't be afraid to take the plunge. by Mama Miah

I know, it's easier said than done... Sometimes it's hard to really do something because you're afraid of what could happen. But after how many years, I realized, if I started doing what I've really wanted to do and have taken the risk, I wouldn't be thinking of "What Ifs" today... So, from now on, I'll try not to be afraid anymore, to take risks and do the best that I can to make things work.

My Tupperware Journey

October 17, 2017 0 Comments
I grew up having a bunch of Tupperware at home. I never really appreciated it until now that I became a mother. It's actually very useful especially in storing ingredients, fruits, foods and of course, my daughter's snack at school. I love that they have added new trendy colors now but it is always out of stock because it's really cool.

I've always wanted to join Tupperware but I always have something important to go or do whenever I remember going there to sign-up. LOL!

Fast forward, after a year, I finally had the chance to join Tupperware Brands here in Davao City. I got so excited to know that one of the Starter Kit is the Speedy Chopper! I've always wanted to have one and I am so happy that I got it at a really low price by joining Tupperware Brands Philippines.

Tupperware Brands Philippines Speedy Chopper

The Speedy Chopper Set is really helpful every time we prepare our meals. It is easy to use and quite fun too, you can chop different herbs and small vegetables in just a few seconds! I was really amazed by this product and I am so happy because it means, 'no more tears' every time I'm chopping onions. ;)

Tupperware Brands Philippines Speedy Chopper Set

You can also make instant dips, sauces and purees with just 10 pulls of the cord. Saves us time to prepare our meals.

Here's a video of me while Unboxing the Speedy Chopper Kit... :)

I really love their products because I have witnessed how long lasting the Tupperware products are. We have Tupperware items since the 90's and some of it are still with us, some have chipped and the others may have faded their colors but it's still usable. :)

I started My Tupperware Journey because I believe in the quality of their products. I am always excited to see their new items every month. Thank God, I have supportive Mommy friends who also loves Tupperware and gives me the opportunity to earn by selling Tupperware's great products... :)

Are You Ready for School?

Hello June! It's back to school once again, but are you ready for school? Are we?

Disney's Are You Ready For School? (Winnie the Pooh's School Days) Book

My daughter will be in Kindergarten this school year and I think we are somewhat ready for school. We did some activities, exercises and review what she had learned last school year. There are some things she had forgotten or still confused, like writing the letters "b, d and s" and numbers "5 and 6". She sometimes write those letters and numbers in reverse. It's a good thing that we had this review before going back to school. :)

She also love books... She loves to read, so we read some books that are appropriate for her age and later on I let her read on her own.

Their school provide the bags and other school materials that they will be needing at school, so we don't have to worry looking and lining up at the store for every materials needed and required school supplies for their upcoming class. :)

I've already checked her school uniforms and shoes if it's still okay and I'm glad everything is still fine and can still be used. There's a few skirt that needs a little adjustment, other than that, we're good to go. :)
