Easter Sunday 2017

June 08, 2017 0 Comments
This is a long overdue post, hence, I'll still post this for Miel to read when she grows up...

It was our first time to join an Easter Sunday Activity such as Easter Egg Hunting and Easter Egg Painting and coloring activity. My daughter really had fun and she really enjoyed the activities and games that they've played. There were games for children her age and she happily played along with the other kids. She got excited to play another game when their team won and got their prizes... Kids love prizes... ;)

Joining this kind of activity is a great bonding for both of us. She also get to interact with different kids her age and she enjoyed doing all the activities with enthusiasm.

Miel's entry for the Coloring Activity got her two swimming pool passes at The Royal Mandaya Hotel. She's happy and excited to swim there but unfortunately, we haven't had the chance to go yet. But, we'll make sure to avail the passes before it expires... ;)

Over-all, the event was great and we had so much fun. Miel's actually looking forward to next year's Easter Sunday and she's hopeful and more motivated to hunt for more eggs next time... ;)

Weekend Getaway at D'Leonor Inland Resort & Adventure Park

May 08, 2017 0 Comments
Last week, we run out of luck while going to the beaches around Samal Island. Unfortunately, all of the resorts that we visited are fully booked! Yeah... So sad... We usually just go into the beach without booking in advance and we didn't encounter any problems so far, until last weekend... There are a lot of people that day, of course, it's Labor Day (a holiday) the next day! Silly us, we didn't check the date before going there. :(

Word of advice, check the calendar first before going to Samal Island. If it's a holiday or a day before the holiday, I suggest you check the availability first and book in advance so you can save your time and money in case that resort has no more rooms available for an overnight stay.

So, after visiting around 5 resorts around Samal Island, we went back to Davao City and went to at D'Leonor Inland Resort & Adventure Park.

Fortunately, they have one room available and we grabbed it right away... YAY! It was already 6pm when we got there, so we had our dinner first before going for a night swim... We ate at the restaurant just near the entrance going to the Wave Pool.

Our stay at D'Leonor Inland Resort was good, there are minor issues but it they've found a way to fix it...

Our kids enjoyed the waves and slides at the pool... It was really hot that day, it's a good thing they have a big man-made mushrooms that served as an umbrella in the Kiddie Pool area... By the way, here's a video that I've made where you can see and experience what's in D'Leonor Wavepool... Enjoy! :)

Calamansi and Honey Juice - A Natural Way to Cure Cough and Colds

October 18, 2016 0 Comments

When I was still a kid, my grandmother would make us Calamansi and Honey juice whenever we have a cough, colds, or both. It's natural and effective in our experience... Now that I became a mother, as much as I wanted to, I don't like my daughter to take a lot of medicines especially Antibiotics or Antibacterial medicines, but there's always an exception if worst comes to worst. If possible I try to make juices out of natural products like Calamansi and Honey

Both Honey and Calamansi have antibacterial and antiviral properties and calamansi is high in Vitamin C which is good for boosting our immune system. I don't have to worry about letting my daughter drink calamansi and honey juice because it's natural and proven to be effective, in our experience. Unless your kid is allergic to any of the two, then you shouldn't let them take it.

Recently, Miel had a cough and colds, so, we bought calamansi and honey. It's actually my first time to buy honey in the supermarket and it's also our first time to try the Mt. Apo Honey which is actually made in here Davao. We usually buy honey from our neighbor before but we just moved far away from the place we used to live, so I opted to buy honey in the supermarket instead. ;)

Anyway, I made Calamansi and Honey juice for my Miel and I hope her cough will be gone soon...

Blogger's Basic Baking Workshop at Philippine Baking Institute

July 21, 2016 0 Comments
I haven't been into any baking workshops before, I just tried and experimented on my own. A few of the recipes that I've tried were from my sister who had been into baking too and had attended formal lessons and workshops on how to bake. I was inspired by her works and that's where my interest in baking started.

It was all new to me and I had to search some of the terminologies used in baking. :)

I really liked baking and wanted to learn more about it, so when the opportunity was given, I immediately grabbed it. Last May 28, 2016, I was one of the bloggers who attended the 1 Day Basic Baking Workshop at Philippine Baking Institute, Inc.

The workshop started with a lecture about baking and bread making which was presented by one of the instructors of Philippine Baking Institute, Mr. Francis Louie C. Mangubat.

He tackled about the basic baking principles, methods in bread baking, uses and limitations of formulas and recipes and bakeshop math.
After the lecture, we were assigned into 3 groups and we had an experiment in making the loaf bread. One group will have no yeast in their ingredients, the others will have no margarine and no water while the last group will have the complete ingredients.
We tried the manual process of kneading the bread dough and it was really hard! Making bread isn't that easy as what I thought it was, but it was a fun learning experience.

So, this is how our dough looked like before baking...

And this is how our loaf bread looked like after baking... See the difference? :D

After making the loaf breads, we made...

Pandesal

Sweet and tasty Spanish bread

and the fluffy, creamy and cheesy Ensaymada...

After making the breads, Mr. Steven Mathew Lim taught us how to bake brownies, butterscotch and pineapple tart.

I really enjoyed the workshop and learned a lot from the instructors. Making bread and pastry is fun especially when you're with the members of the Davao Bloggers Society. Thank you Philippine Baking Institute for this opportunity! :)

If you want to learn the art and science of baking, you can check out Philippine Baking Institute's Courses and Programs:

Zip Line at Outland Adventure Davao City

May 16, 2016 0 Comments
The Xcelerator Zip Line

This was my first Zip Line experience at Outland Adventure. This is 5 years ago, yeah, I'm still single at that time. LOL. I had to make a post about this because I lost my old post when I forgot to renew my domain 5 years ago. Yeah, silly me, I got too busy and didn't spend much time checking my emails or going online.

So, I'm making another post now about my  Zip Line experience. I was really nervous at that time because I am afraid of heights. It was an amazing experience for me because I have somehow overcome my fear of heights and I also have experienced to ride in one of the longest zip lines here in Davao City. The view was breathtaking too which I only get to notice when I was in the middle of the line.

After zipping, my knees were shaking but I feel good inside. It's a good feeling knowing you just did what you thought you couldn't do. The experience was worth it and yeah, it was awesome! :)

If you are an adventurous person, try and experience their Zip Line and other services.

Outland Adventure is open on:

Wed-Sat: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Sun: 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

They're Closed on Monday and Tuesday.

They're located at Purok 7 Mahayahay, Diversion Road, Barangay Langub, 8000 Davao City.

You can check out the Outland Adventure Facebook page for more information.  :)

Miel's first Horse-riding Experience

April 25, 2016 0 Comments

Miel is only 4 years old and she wanted to try to ride the horse. I asked her if she's not scared or anything and she said she's not scared. I was having second thoughts if I'll let her or not... I saw some kids and kids almost her age ride the horse and they were just fine afterward, so I thought it would be okay for Miel to experience it.

This was in Eden Nature Park and Resort, Toril, Davao City...

She was behaved and relaxed the whole time, she said she was happy and I can see it because she's smiling from start to finish... :) I'm glad I let her experience this memorable moment, her first horse-riding experience was great...

Note: The fee for the Horseback riding is PHP 85.00 :)

Children's Health at Risk Due to Haze

October 26, 2015 0 Comments
Because of the Haze in Indonesia, more nearby countries in South-East Asia have been affected and our country is one of them, the Philippines. This is alarming because it's putting not just the children's health at risk but all of the people who will be exposed to the haze. Most of the ones who are suffering are the children and babies whose immune systems are still immature.

I've been seeing news about children who had been really affected by the haze, most especially the babies who had been exposed to this hazardous smoke. Some had lived while the others had suffered and died.

What causes the haze in Indonesia?
The haze is caused by farmers clearing land for plantations for the palm oil, pulp and paper industries, primarily in the Indonesian province of Kalimantan on Borneo and the island of Sumatra. [Source]
There are lots of flights that have been canceled too due to this haze, not just here in Southern Mindanao but also in countries like Singapore and Malaysia. There are also a lot of people in Indonesia who had suffered and died of acute respiratory tract infections. [Information on this website]

Now the haze already reached Davao City, our hometown. I've seen one post on Facebook by a Mom whose kids had been sick then after that, a lot of moms have commented and shared that their toddlers and kids were sick too (cough, colds, allergies, asthma, etc.), I guess it's all because of this haze from Indonesia.

Because of this we have limited our outdoor activities and refrain from going outside especially for our daughter, Miel. My daughter currently has coughs and colds too and she had allergies since she was a baby. I am worried that this haze could worsen her condition, so as much as possible we limit ourselves from going out and if we do, we let her wear a mask. We had to stick to our usual routine, home-day care-home and if possible just stay at home if there's no need to go outside. So for those parents who had kids who have a history of asthma and other types of allergies, let your kids wear masks for their own safety. Here's the Department of Health (DOH) Health Advisory during Haze:

Stay Safe everyone! I hope and pray that this Haze will end SOON!

Sudden Addiction to Cactus and Succulents

May 17, 2015 0 Comments
It's been a while since my last post because I've been busy with different events for "A" Creative Events. ;) I've been busy with my plants too, re-potting them after I got them during the SM Agro-Trade Fair last April of 2015. I think I bought around 10 kinds of cactus and succulents that time... hahaha! Well, we already have a few cactus at home which had been with us for around 5 years already although it's just one variety, it's from a Gymnocalycium specie... I think this is the most common cactus that you can see here in the Philippines... :)

The mother of all our cactus and the very first ones that we had... A Gymnocalycium anisitsii ssp. damsii...

Yup! It has a lot of babies and look at its roots! ;)

I was so lucky to have friends who gave me some cactus and succulents which I will be blogging, soon... ;)

Lachi's Sans Rival Atbp

July 10, 2014 0 Comments
If there's one restaurant that I love and would love to recommend, it's non other than Lachi's Sans Rival Atbp. It's not that expensive and you'll get really satisfied for what you've paid for.

The first time I've tried their food was way back in year 2008 and from that moment, I kept on craving for their dishes and most especially their pastries. I personally loved their Durian Cheesecake and Sans Rival.

Durian Cheesecake

Classic Sans Rival and

Durian Sans Rival

I wouldn't miss those two whenever I'm at Lachi's, al though sometimes the durian cheesecake which is their best seller by the way, is not available or it's all consumed. I guess a lot of people really love it and I am just one of them. ;)

Here are some of Lachi's delectable home-cooked meals:

The Unforgettable Grilled Pork Ribs is one of their best sellers too, it's meat is tender and absolutely delicious. When you've tasted this dish, you would know why it is named Unforgettable Grilled Pork Ribs, because you would never forget it for its flavorful taste.

Have you heard of Pork Marina? I've heard of Seafood Marinara but it's my first time to hear about Pork Marinara at Lachi's. It's a spaghetti with cheese and tomato sauce, topped with crunchy breaded pork strips. It is one of the dishes that I also loved at Lachi's, well I actually love most of their dishes, lol. :)

If you're looking for a healthy meal, the Breaded Soft Tofu with Teriyaki sauce is best for you.

Elsie's melt-in-your-mouth roast pork is also a must try. It's meat is so tender and it is really good, we can't help ourselves from eating it. I'm glad we tried it. If you're up for a spicy dish, I recommend their laing.

Below are just a few of their mouth watering dishes that you should try...

Chinese Pork Belly

Kaldereta

Beef Tapa

Other pastries that you must also check out:

Strawberry and Blueberry Cheesecake

 Cashew Mocha Torte

Creme Brulee

Lachi's Sans Rival Atbp is own by twin brothers Melvin and Mike Aviles.

Lachi's Sans Rival Atbp is located at Ruby St., Marfori Heights Davao City. Most of the time their place is always full so I suggest you call them at 224 5552 and have a reservation. ;)

Check out their Facebook page too, Lachi's Sans Rival Atbp.
